Executive Order: Enabling All Qualified Americans to Serve Their Country in Uniform (1/25/2021)
- This executive order revokes two presidential memorandums under President Trump which barred military service by transgender individuals. The new order states that the new policy of the United States is to ensure that all transgender individuals who wish to serve in the U.S. military and meet the appropriate standards “shall be able to do so openly and free from discrimination.”
Executive Order: Protecting the Federal Workforce (1/22/2021)
- This executive order revokes several Trump administration executive orders pertaining to labor and sets forth policies to protect the federal workforce. The Biden order most notably revokes the Schedule F classification of federal employees, a categorization created in the late stages of the Trump administration. Other reforms in the order include the disbandment of the Interagency Labor Relations Working Group, along with a provision that ensures the right to collective bargaining and states an intention to create a living wage for federal employees.
