For those who follow events relating to armed conflict, including the laws of war, there is a new resource available -- Blue Force Tracker.  BFT is an app now available free download on the Apple or Google Play stores. From the announcement (full disclosure:  the founder, Nolan Peterson, is a former student of mine):
Blue Force Tracker is a team of journalists - veterans of the military, intelligence agencies and diplomats - who will report, analyze and aggregate the stories related to the military, veterans and foreign affairs that other media outlets ignore. Our intent is to close the civilian-military divide in America by giving our audience a realistic account of what the military does and the threats facing our country -- from writers who actually know what they're talking about. This project is . . .  inspired by my return to the Afghanistan War last year as a war correspondent after a career as an Air Force Special Operations pilot. While embedded with frontline U.S. and Afghan combat units, I discovered the media was not accurately reporting on the military or the threats facing America abroad. Military veterans, as well as veterans of intelligence agencies and diplomatic corps, have a unique credibility and expertise about the regions and issues with which most Americans are unfamiliar. We need to give those who have "boots on the ground" experience a more prominent voice in telling the American people the news. And the American people need a more realistic account of what is happening in today's turbulent world form journalists who have real credibility.
The app is quite useful and I understand that a web site www.blueforcetracker.com will follow soon.
