Canadian Government Releases Review of Feb. 2022 Emergency Powers Declaration

On Feb. 17, Public Order Emergency Commissioner Paul Rouleau released the “Report of the Public Inquiry into the 2022 Public Order Emergency,” reviewing the circumstances of an emergency declaration in Canada during Feb. 14-23, 2022. The emergency was invoked by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to authorize sweeping powers in response to widespread protests of the Trudeau administration’s COVID-19 policies. 

The report’s release is in compliance with a House of Parliament order that mandated its disclosure to the public by Feb. 20, 2023. You can view a Webcast of the Commissioner's public statement here, and you can read the final report, which consists of five parts, here or below.
