It's not. This is a screenshot taken today at around 9:30 AM EST of the homepage of People's Daily, the main mouthpiece for the Chinese Communist Party. The one mention of Hong Kong is highlighted in red and reads, "Foreign Ministry: Hong Kong is China's; We Hope that Relevant Countries Will Speak and Act Cautiously." The quote links to a short briefing about Hong Kong hidden in a larger Foreign Ministry press release.
By 11:30 AM EST, that one marginal link had disappeared, to be replaced by an opinion piece I have also highlighted entitled, "There is No One who Cares More about Hong Kong's Fate than the Entire Chinese People; 'Occupy Central' Harms the Rule of Law."
The English version of People's Daily gives the protests a bit more prominence, but characterizes them as an "illegal assembly" that is unresponsive to the local government:
