On June 7, the Department of Homeland Security released a national terrorism advisory warning that the country remains in a “heightened threat environment” amid a rise in domestic extremism threats in the United States. According to the advisory, the department expects threats of domestic extremism to become more “dynamic” in the coming months and warned that threat actors have mobilized to target a variety of individuals and domestic institutions.

The advisory cites multiple recent violent attacks—such as the mass shootings in Texas, Buffalo, and California—as key aspects of the evolving threat environment.
