The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit heard oral argument today in Washington v. Trump, regarding the State of Washington's challenge to the president's executive order banning refugees and immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the United States. The specific issue at hand was the government's motion for a stay of the temporary restraining order issued by Judge James Robart of the U.S.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit heard oral argument today in Washington v. Trump, regarding the State of Washington's challenge to the president's executive order banning refugees and immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the United States. The specific issue at hand was the government's motion for a stay of the temporary restraining order issued by Judge James Robart of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, preventing the executive order from being implemented. In an unusual step, the Ninth Circuit made audio of the argument available to the public via livestream.

Arguing for the government was August Flentje, Special Counsel to the Assistant U.S. Attorney General. Arguing for the State of Washington was state Solicitor General Noah Purcell. The panel was composed of Judge William Canby, Judge Richard Clifton, and Judge Michelle Friedland.
