The Haqqani Network and the Idea of an "Associated Force"

Don Fassler and Vahid Brown at West Point's Combating Terrorism Center have published an interesting report on the role that the Haqqani Network had played over time in relation to al Qaeda.  It's useful to read for many reasons, including to better appreciate the difficulty of demarcating the boundaries of networks such as al Qaeda and what it might mean to say that another such entity is an associated force of al Qaeda.

Robert (Bobby) Chesney is the Dean of the University of Texas School of Law, where he also holds the James A. Baker III Chair in the Rule of Law and World Affairs at UT.
