A Lawfare Welcome

I am delighted to announce important changes to our masthead.

First, Julian Ku and Robert Loeb have both agreed to become contributing editors. Lawfare readers already know their work well, as they have both been writing for us for some time, Julian on South China Sea matters and Bob on national security civil litigation.

Julian is the Maurice A. Deane Distinguished Professor of Constitutional Law at Hofstra University School of Law. He is a co-founder of Opinio Juris, the leading blog on international law. His primary research interest is the relationship of international law to constitutional law. He has also conducted academic research on a wide range of topics including international dispute resolution, international criminal law, and China’s relationship with international law.

Bob, meanwhile, is a partner in Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe's Supreme Court and Appellate Litigation practice. The former Acting Deputy Director of the Civil Division Appellate Staff at the U.S. Department of Justice, he has handled hundreds of cases before the court of appeals and the Supreme Court. While at DOJ, he served as Special Appellate Counsel for National Security and International Law matters.

Second, Lawfare plans to expand its book review coverage significantly in the coming year. To help us do so, our book review editors, Ken and Jack, have been recruiting area specialists to help us deepen our pool of outstanding books and reviewers. We are thrilled to announce that the first four specialty editors are Mary L. Dudziak of Emory Law School, who will cover foreign relations history; Samuel Moyn of the Harvard Law School and Harvard History Department, who will cover human rights; Geoffrey Corn of South Texas College of Law, who will cover military affairs; and Steve Slick of the Robert R. Strauss Center at the University of Texas, who will cover intelligence. We will be adding more specialty editors later this year.
