I'm sorry to report that Ambassador Bob Strauss has passed.  He lived an extraordinary life, punctuated by an astonishing array of accomplishments and contributions to the greater good.  I'm deeply proud to be associated with the research center at UT that bears his name.  We have posted a tribute to his memory here, and at the bottom of that page you will find an array of links to fascinating accounts of his life.  Here, I will simply say that Bob Strauss embodied virtues that are needed today more than ever.  He never hesitated to cross the aisle or to compromise when it was in the greater interest of the public to do so.  He was focused on solving the nation's problems, period, above all in the context of foreign relations. It is a legacy we would do well not just to remember, but to emulate.
