NATO released its new “Strategic Concept” that reaffirms the alliance’s values and purpose and outlines NATO's political and military development for coming years. The strategy—the eighth of its kind and last updated in 2010—was presented during the three-day summit taking place in Madrid between June 27-30. The summit included several first-time attendees such as Australia and Japan, and newly invited members Finland and Sweden.

The strategy includes an overview of NATO’s core tasks like deterrence and crisis management, a discussion of the strategic environment following developments like Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and a call for the continued support of NATO, citing its important role in global peace and security along with other reasons.

You can read the full strategy here or below.
