Prosecutors Add New Details in Foreign Lobbying Case of Trump Adviser
The superseding indictment include new claims of Barrack’s alleged efforts to attempt to influence the Trump campaign and administration under the direction of United Arab Emirates officials.

The Justice Department on May 16 updated its indictment of Thomas Barrack, a former adviser to former President Trump, to include new claims of his alleged efforts to attempt to influence the Trump campaign and administration under the direction of United Arab Emirates (UAE) officials. Prosecutors charged Barrack in July 2021 with acting as an unregistered agent on behalf of the UAE between 2016 to 2018 and conspiring with the Emirati government to influence foreign policy positions of the Trump campaign and White House. In the new superseding indictment, prosecutors allege that Barrack sought hundreds of millions of dollars in investments from the UAE government for a fund that would advance the administration’s agenda. Per the indictment, the fund would have also benefited from the administration’s policies. The indictment also adds two counts of making false statements to federal investigators.
