On the third day of President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, the House managers presented their case for the first article of impeachment against Trump: abuse of power. It was a long day—roughly nine-and-a-half hours of arguments, breaks and procedures—but crucial to understanding why the House initiated impeachment proceedings against the president. So Lawfare and Goat Rodeo boiled the House’s argument down to the most essential one hour and 38 minutes. No commentary. Nothing extra. It’s just the House’s side of the story that you need to hear.
To begin, you’ll hear Rep. Jerrold Nadler walk through the history and law of impeachable offenses, focusing on the Founders’ intentions when they wrote the impeachment clause in the first place. You will then hear the other House managers apply the facts of their case to the law of impeachment, including outlining their argument that President Trump acted with corrupt intent when he solicited the investigations of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son and the 2016 election, when he withheld a White House meeting from newly elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and when he froze nearly $400 million in congressionally approved security assistance to Ukraine. You will also hear the House managers explain the debunked conspiracy theories underlying both sought-after investigations.
It’s the Impeachment Trial, Day Three.
