In a written statement, Rosenstein defended his decision to appoint Special Counsel Robert Mueller. He also addressed the inspector general’s finding that there were “significant errors” in Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act applications, including those filed in connection with the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. Rosenstein wrote that “if existing policies fall short, those policies need to be changed.”
