On Aug. 27, Special Counsel Jack Smith filed a superseding indictment in the Jan. 6 case against former President Donald Trump.
The superseding indictment follows the Supreme Court’s July 1 ruling, which held that former presidents enjoy absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for activities within their “conclusive and preclusive” authority, at least presumptive immunity for all official acts, and no immunity for unofficial acts.
