No, there hasn't been absolutely no news relevant to Lawfare readers over the past few days. I've just been away. Here is a catch-up: A Washington Post editorial, an LA Times editorial, and a Baltimore Sun editorial over the weekend each review the issues at hand in the Warsame case. Joseph Margulies mulls over why liberals aren't more bothered by the Obama administration's treatment of Warsame in a New Republic column. In his new role as SecDef, Leon Panetta met with Hamid Karzai in Kabul over the weekend. Both the Times and the Post report on this meeting, as well as Panetta's progress assessment toward defeating al Qaeda. Politico is reporting that Hamid Karzai's brother has been assassinated. Three supposed drone strikes in Pakistan killed 38 militants in less than 12 hours, reports the AP (via The Guardian). Human Rights Watch has just released a report calling for George W. Bush to be prosecuted by foreign governments for war crimes. Mitch McConnell is taking a curious approach in his ongoing campaign to relocate two terrorist suspects from his home state of Kentucky to Guantanamo, citing the Casey Anthony trial as proof that American courts are not proper venues for terrorist trials. The Sacramento Bee notes that the military combat photographer who was in a federal detention center for passport fraud has been freed on the condition that he return for his trial next week. The father of American detainee John Walker Lindh defends his son's innocence in this lengthy piece in the Guardian.
