Twenty-three senators have sent a letter to new SecDef Panetta regarding the U.S. decision to try Warsame in a New York federal  civilian court. Jennifer Epstein of Politico has the story. In the Miami Herald, Halimah Abdullah discusses Senator Rand Paul's and Mitch McConnell's concerns regarding Obama's strategy for dealing with alleged terrorists. The Wall Street Journal's Julian Barnes mulls the question of whether the U.S. will restart sending terrorist suspects to Guantanamo Bay. The Weekly Standard reminds readers that Matthew Olson, the nominee for the NCTC director, was involved with approving detainee transfers from Guantanamo as the head of the Guantanamo Review Task Force, and asks whether he will be questioned during his confirmation hearing on his role in that task force. Fifteen alleged Al Qaeda militants are being detained in Turkey in connection with a plot to attack foreign diplomatic targets, including the U.S. embassy in Ankara, Turkey, reports Sebnem Arsu of the New York Times. The U.S. military uses biometrics to maintain a database of Afghan and Iraqi detainees, applicants for government jobs, and other locals, The New York Times' Thom Shanker reports. Ellen Nakashima of the Washington Post reporting this morning that Deputy Defense Secretary William J. Lynn III is slated to unveil the Pentagon's strategy for defending its computer systems against cyberattacks. The AP  discusses the investigation into an unsanctioned interrogation program within the CIA that resulted in the death of a detainee, Manadel al-Jamadi. A retired CIA officer, Steve Stormoen, supervised this "ghosting" program even after CIA lawyers prohibited the agency from handling its own interrogations. Raffaela Wakeman is a Senior Director at In-Q-Tel. She started her career at the Brookings Institution, where she spent five years conducting research on national security, election reform, and Congress. From there, Raffaela practiced law at the U.S. Department of Defense for four years, advising her clients on privacy and surveillance law, cybersecurity, and foreign liaison relationships. She departed DoD in 2019 to join the Majority Staff of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where she oversaw the Intelligence Community’s science and technology portfolios, cybersecurity, and surveillance activities. She left HPSCI in May 2021 to join IQT. Raffaela received her BS and MS in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2009 and her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 2015, where she was recognized for her commitment to public service with the Joyce Chiang Memorial Award. While at the Department of Defense, she was the inaugural recipient of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s General Counsel Award for exhibiting the highest standards of leadership, professional conduct, and integrity.
