Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council hosted a discussion about how transatlantic cooperation can bolster energy security and decarbonization efforts in the Black Sea region. The event featured a keynote address from Richard Morningstar, former U.S. ambassador to the European Union, and a panel moderated by Olga Khakova, deputy director for European energy security at the Global Energy Center. Panelists included Alexandra Bocșe, advisor to the President of Romania for climate and sustainability; Tatiana Iosiper, special envoy for energy and climate diplomacy at the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Jake Levine, chief climate officer at the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation; David Livingston, senior advisor in the Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate at the U.S. Department of State; George Niculescu, state secretary at the Romanian Ministry of Energy; and Joshua Volz, deputy assistant secretary for Europe, Eurasia, Africa, and the Middle East at the U.S. Department of Energy.

Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace hosted a conversation about the future of Israeli governance under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s unprecedented right-wing regime. The event featured remarks from Tzipi Livni, the former Israeli vice prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and justice; and Aaron David Miller, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, at 2:15 p.m. ET: The Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University will host a conversation about the legal battles faced by Guantanamo detainees subjected to torture by the U.S. government. The event will feature remarks from Lisa Hajjar, author of “The War in Court: Inside the Long Fight against Torture,” as well as James Connell and Alka Pradhan, both human rights attorneys who have defended detainees at Guantanamo. 

Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will present a discussion about how technology companies in the United States and China have exploited government policy to jeopardize individual privacy. The event will feature remarks from Aynne Kokas, a professor at the University of Virginia and recent author of “Trafficking Data: How China Is Winning the Battle for Digital Sovereignty.”

Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a conversation about Russian threats to global financial security. The event will feature a keynote address by H.E. Serhiy Marchenko, the Ukrainian finance minister, followed by a panel discussion. Panelists include: Timothy Ash, senior sovereign strategist at Bluebay Asset Management; John Cusack, founder of the Global Coalition to Fight Financial Crime; Olena Halushka, co-founder of the International Center for Ukrainian Victory; and Brian O’Toole, nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s GeoEconomics Center.

Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. ET: The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University will host a discussion about how and to what extent companies in the EU operate their infrastructure to comply with EU data localization regulations. The event will feature remarks from Alex Gamero Garrido, a postdoctoral fellow in computer science at Northeastern University.

Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will host an event to examine the 2023 Union Budget of India and the country’s economic trajectory. The event will feature remarks from Richard Rossow, senior adviser and Wadhwani chair in U.S.-India policy studies at CSIS; Stephanie Segal, senior fellow at the CSIS Economics Program; Joydeep Mukherji, managing director at S&P Global Ratings; and Christian de Guzman, senior vice president at Moody's Sovereign Ratings.

Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host an event to examine strategies to deter Russia at sea in the High North. The event will feature keynote remarks from Adm. James Foggo, dean of the Center for Maritime Strategy, followed by  a panel discussion. Panelists include: Adm. Daryl Caudle, commander of the U.S. Navy Fleet Forces Command; Vice Adm. Daniel Dwyer, commander of the U.S. Navy Second fleet; Vice Adm. Kevin Lunday, Atlantic Area commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Atlantic Area; Rear Adm. Anthony Rimington, director of strategy and policy in the Royal Navy; Egil Vasstrand, naval and assistant defense attaché for the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Washington; Michael Petersen, director of the Russia Maritime Studies Institute at the U.S. Naval War College; Mathieu Boulègue, research fellow at the Russia and Eurasia Programme at Chatham House; and Chris Kofron, director for Russia at the National Security Council. The discussion will be moderated by Rebecca Pincus, director of the Wilson Center’s Polar Institute; and Rachel Gosnell, doctoral candidate at the University of Maryland.

Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at 9:15 a.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host a discussion to examine how to foster national security and economic prosperity in North America. The event will feature remarks from Anita Anand, the Canadian minister of national defence, and François-Philippe Champagne, the Canadian minister of innovation, science, and industry. The conversation will be moderated by Christopher Sands, director of the Wilson Center’s Canada Institute. 

Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Hudson Institute will host a conversation about the rise in state actors that leverage crime, corruption, and coercion to maintain economic dominance. The discussion will feature remarks from Tom Tugendhat, retired British minister of state, and Marshall Billingslea, senior fellow at the Hudson Institute; and will be moderated by Nate Sibley, a research fellow at the Hudson Institute.
