Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council hosted a panel to discuss improving enforcement and effectiveness of sanctions levied against Russia. The event featured opening remarks by Charles Lichfield, deputy director of the Atlantic Council’s GeoEconomics Center followed by a panel discussion. Panelists included: Peter Piatetsky, chief executive officer at Castellum.AI; Daniel Tannebaum, partner and global anti-financial crime practice leader at Oliver Wyman; and Ellen Wald, president of Transversal Consulting. The panel was moderated by Maia Nikoladze, assistant director for economic statecraft at the Atlantic Council’s GeoEconomics Center.
Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) hosted an event to discuss Daniel Runde’s new book entitled, “The American Imperative: Reclaiming Global Leadership Through Soft Power.” Runde, senior vice president at CSIS, sat down with Conor Savoy, senior fellow at CSIS to unpack opportunities for the United States to wield non-military power in the era of great power competition.
Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Hudson Institute will host an event to examine avenues for protecting the U.S. software supply chain against foreign digital sabotage. The conversation will feature remarks from Rep. Tony Gonzales, (R.-Texas); Bryan Clark, director of the Center for Defense Concepts and Technology; Jason Weiss, chief software officer at Conquest Cyber; and Cliff Bean, director of Navy Missions in the Defense Sector at Peraton.
Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host an event to discuss fostering trust in digital spaces, with a focus on efforts to “engineer” trust in Web3. The event will feature remarks from Anna Weichselbraun, researcher and anthropologist studying novel forms of governance in Web3.
Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host an event to reflect on the detention and eventual release of Brittney Griner, as well as the significance of the prisoner exchange to U.S.-Russia relations. The conversation will feature remarks from Kimberly St. Julian-Varnon, a PhD student in history at the University of Pennsylvania, and William Pomeranz, director of the Kennan Institute. B. Amarilis Lugo de Fabritz, a master instructor for Russian at Howard University, will moderate the discussion.
Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. ET: CSIS will host an event to explore the benefits of a free trade agreement between the United States and United Kingdom. The conversation will feature remarks from Rep. Adrian Smith (R.-Neb.); William Reinsch, senior adviser at CSIS; Shanker Singham, CEO of Competere Ltd.; David Salmonsen, senior director of congressional relations at the American Farm Bureau Federation; and Jeffrey Weiss, Partner at Steptoe and Johnson LLP. The discussion will be moderated by Meredith Broadbent, a nonresident senior adviser at CSIS.
Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host a conversation about women’s rights in Iran to contextualize recent protests spearheaded by Iranian women and girls. The event will feature remarks from Mahnaz Afkhami, president of the Women’s Learning Partnership and former Iranian Minister for Women’s Affairs. Merissa Khurma, program director for the Wilson Center’s Middle East Program will moderate the discussion.
Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host a discussion about how Russia's invasion has affected Ukrainian national identity and governance. The event will feature remarks from Volodymyr Dubovyk, an associate professor at Odesa I. I Mechnikov National University. The discussion will be moderated by William Pomeranz, director of the Kennan Institute.
Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. ET: The George Washington University will host an event to examine Christian nationalism and its role in American politics. The event's first panel discussion, on American history and Christian Nationalism, will feature remarks from Sabrina Dent, president of the Center for Faith, Justice, and Reconciliation; Mark Hall, professor at George Fox University; James Patterson, associate professor at Ave Maria University; and will be moderated by Denver Brunsman, associate professor at the George Washington University. The event’s second panel, on arguments supporting and opposing Christian nationalism, will feature remarks from Paul Miller, author of “The Religion of American Greatness: What’s Wrong with Christian Nationalism;” Stephen Wolfe, author of “The Case for Christian Nationalism;” and will moderated Samuel Goldman, associate professor at the George Washington University. The event’s final panel, on international religious nationalisms, will include remarks from Shadi Hamid, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution; Marlene Laruelle, director of the George Washington University Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies; Neil Rogachevsky, associate director at the Yeshiva University Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought; and will be moderated by Jerome Copulsky, research fellow at Georgetown University’s Berkley Center.
Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: CSIS will host a discussion to assess the state of Russia’s war in Ukraine and potential outcomes a year after the invasion. The conversation will feature remarks from Seth Jones, senior vice president of the International Security Program at CSIS; Eliot Cohen, the Arleigh Burke chair in strategy at CSIS; Emily Harding, deputy director of the International Security Program at CSIS; and Michael Vickers, former under secretary of defense for Intelligence and CIA operations officer.
