Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) hosted a webinar to discuss evidence of systematic Russian attacks on Ukrainian healthcare infrastructure. The event featured remarks from Tetyana Katrychenko, coordinator at Media Initiative for Human Rights; Uliana Poltavets, Ukraine emergency response coordinator at Physicians for Human Rights; and Anna Olsen, former senior combat medic in the 36th Separate Brigade of Marines. The webinar was moderated by J. Stephen Morrison, director of CSIS’s global health policy center.
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. ET: The Senate Committee on Armed Services will hold a hearing to receive testimony on the ongoing war in Ukraine. The hearing will feature witnesses Angela Stent, nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution; Dara Massicot, senior policy researcher at the RAND Corporation; and Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, co-chair of the Center for American Security at the America First Policy Institute.
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. ET: The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace will host a virtual event to examine how U.S. sanctions can adversely harm American economic and foreign policy interests. The webinar will feature remarks from Matthew Duss, visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment, and Agathe Demarais, an economist and recent author of “Backfire: How Sanctions Reshape the World Against U.S. Interests.”
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host an event to examine strategies to counter nuclear proliferation. The event will feature remarks from Rachel Whitlark, associate professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology and author of “All Options on the Table: Leaders, Preventive War, and Nuclear Proliferation.”
Wednesday, Mar. 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: CSIS will host a panel discussion to examine the challenges of delivering humanitarian aid to communities in Afghanistan. Panelists include: Najia Nasim, executive director of Women for Afghan Women U.S.; Janti Soeripto, president of Save the Children U.S.; and William Byrd, senior expert at the U.S. Institute of Peace.
Wednesday, Mar. 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will present a virtual discussion to analyze challenges presented by Russia’s status as a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council. The event will feature remarks from Maksym Baryshnikov, co-founder of the Civic Hub Initiative; Thomas Grant, senior fellow at Cambridge University’s Lauterpacht Centre for International Law; Iouri Loutsenko, director of international affairs at Civic Hub; Geoffrey Nice, former prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia; Lesia Vasylenko, member of the Ukrainian parliament; and Oleksii Zhmerenetskyi, member of the Ukrainian parliament. The conversation will be moderated by Shelby Magid, deputy director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center.
Thursday, Mar. 2, 2023, at 12:15 p.m. ET: The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University will host a discussion about the politics of humanitarian relief for victims of the earthquake which devastated communities across Turkey and Syria earlier this month. The event will feature remarks from Ghassan ElKahlout, associate professor at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.
Thursday, Mar. 2, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a conference to examine how the United States and its allies can collectively ensure security in the Arctic. The event will feature opening remarks by Anniken Ramberg Krutnes, ambassador of Norway to the United States, and Matthew Kroenig, senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security. After which, Ine Eriksen Søreide, chair of the Norwegian Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense, will sit down for a fireside chat with Melissa Dalton, assistant secretary of defense for homeland defense and hemispheric affairs at the U.S. Department of Defense. Later, Marisol Maddox, a senior arctic analyst at the Wilson Center’s Polar Institute, will moderate a panel discussion about changing security conditions in the High North. Panelists include: Åsmund Aukrust, first vice chair in the Norwegian Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence; Douglas Jones, deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs at the U.S. Department of State; Stephanie Pezard, senior political scientist at the RAND Corporation; and Dave Auerswald, nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative.
Friday, Mar. 3, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host an event to discuss efforts by the Biden Administration to ensure the accessibility of data in African markets. The webinar will feature keynote remarks by Dilawar Syed, special representative for commercial and business affairs at the U.S. Department of State, followed by a panel discussion about the digital transformation in Africa. Panelists include Hardy Pemhiwa, president of Cassava Technologies; Nitin Gajria, managing director for Sub-Saharan Africa at Google; and Roslyn Docktor, vice president for technology and science policy in IBM’s Middle East and Africa division. The panel will be moderated by Aubrey Hruby, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center.
Friday, Mar. 3, 2023, at 1:45 p.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host an event to assess opportunities for multilateral cooperation to strengthen marine protection in Latin America. The discussion will feature remarks from Monica Medina, assistant secretary of the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs at the U.S. Department of State; Carlos Del Toro, secretary of the U.S. Navy; Vice Adm. Francisco Hernando Cubides, commander of the Colombian National Navy; and Rear Adm. Michael Studeman, director of the National Maritime Intelligence Integration Office for the U.S. Navy. The conversation will be moderated by Benjamin Gedan, director of the Latin America Program at the Wilson Center.
