Monday, March 27, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution hosted a forum to evaluate human capital challenges facing the U.S. national security community. The event featured opening remarks by Michael E. O’Hanlon, director of research at the Brookings Institution’s Strobe Talbott Center for Security, Strategy, and Technology, and an initial panel to discuss strategies for curating talent in the intelligence community, with insights from John C. Gannon, former assistant director of analysis and production at the Central Intelligence Agency; Amy Kardell, dean of the college of strategic intelligence at the National Intelligence University; and Cynthia G. Snyder, assistant director of national intelligence for human capital in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. The conversation was moderated by Scott Englund, assistant dean of the College of Strategic Intelligence. The second panel, which discussed recruitment objectives for the national security enterprise, featured Beth J. Asch, professor of policy analysis at the Pardee RAND Graduate School; Katherine L. Kuzminski, senior fellow and director of the Military, Veterans, and Society Program at the Center for a New American Security; and Lt. Gen. (ret.) Thomas Spoehr, director of the Center for National Defense at the Heritage Foundation. The panel was moderated by Col. Marcos A. Melendez III, federal executive fellow at the Brookings Institution. The final panel, to discuss the retention of human capital, featured Meredith Kleykamp, director of the University of Maryland’s Center for Research on Military Organization; Heidi Urben, director of external education and outreach at Georgetown University; and Jeff Williamson, vice president for human resources at Booz Allen Hamilton. The conversation was moderated by Capt. Brad McNally, federal executive fellow at the Brookings Institution. The event featured keynote remarks by Lori Robinson, nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution; and Col. Jason Wolff, federal executive fellow at the Brookings Institution.

Monday, March 27, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The George Washington University Program on Extremism hosted an event to survey emerging threats to U.S. national security. The event featured Nicholas Rasmussen, counterterrorism coordinator at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Gina Ligon, director of the National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education (NCITE); and Seamus Hughes, deputy director of the Program on Extremism.

Tuesday, Mar. 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. ET: The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a hearing to assess the United States’ support for democracies and human rights. The Committee will hear testimony from Leopoldo Lopez, co-founder of the World Liberty Congress; Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, leader of the Democratic Forces of Belarus; and Damon Wilson, president of the National Endowment for Democracy.

Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. ET: The Program on Extremism will host a discussion about best practices for reintegrating foreign fighters who left the United States to join ISIS. The event will feature Austin Doctor, head of counterterrorism research initiatives at NCITE; Andrew Mines, research fellow at the Program on Extremism; Omar Mohammed, research fellow at the Program on Extremism; and Julie Coleman, judicial affairs officer at the United Nations.

Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. ET: The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University will host a conversation about armed conflicts waged by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s regime. The event will feature Mark Galeotti, principal and political scientist at Mayak Intelligence and recent author of “Putin's Wars: From Chechnya to Ukraine.”

Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will host a virtual event to discuss the economic impacts of a possible crisis in and around the Taiwan Strait. The conversation will feature Jude Blanchette, freeman chair in China studies at CSIS; Gerard DiPippo, senior fellow at CSIS; Anna Ashton, director of China corporate affairs at the Eurasia Group; John Fagan, co-founder of Markets Policy Partners; Emily Kilcrease, director of the Energy, Economics, and Security Program at the Center for a New American Security

Wednesday, Mar. 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The House Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a hearing to review strategies for ensuring transparency of U.S. aid to Ukraine. The Committee will hear testimony from three witnesses: Diana R. Shaw, deputy inspector general performing the duties of the Inspector General at the U.S. Department of State; Nicole L. Angarella, acting deputy inspector general performing the duties of the Inspector General at the U.S. Agency for International Development; and Hon. Robert P. Storch inspector general at the U.S. Department of Defense.

Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a virtual event to discuss ongoing political turbulence in Israel and the future of Prime Minister Netenyahu’s government. The webcast will feature three discussants: Amos Harel, nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution; Ilana Dayan, host of the investigative television program “Uvda”; and Shibley Telhami, nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. The conversation will be moderated by Natan Sachs, director of the Brookings Institution’s Center for Middle East Policy.

Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host a discussion about Putin’s interpretation of international law and recent actions that signal imperialist aspirations. The event will feature a conversation with Lauri Mälksoo, former fellow at the Wilson Center, moderated by William E. Pomeranz, director of the Wilson Center’s Russia and Eurasia program.

Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. ET: CSIS will host a discussion about the future of the trilateral security partnership between the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia. The event will feature opening remarks Vice Adm. (ret.) Pete H. Daly, chief executive officer of the U.S. Naval Institute; and Charles Edel, chair of CSIS’ Australia Program. The following conversation will feature four discussants: Seth G. Jones, senior vice president at CSIS’ International Security Program; Vice Adm. (ret.) Peter H. Daly, chief executive officer of the U.S. Naval Institute; Adm. (ret.) Harry Harris Jr., former commander of the U.S. Pacific Command; and Edel, chair of CSIS’ Australia Program.

Friday, March 30, 2023 at 8:15 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a conversation about geopolitical shifts and economic challenges facing Europe. The event will feature introductory remarks by Frederick Kempe, president of the Atlantic Council; and a conversation between H.E. Margrethe Vestager, executive vice-president of the European Commission; and Jörn Fleck, senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center.
