Monday, February 16th: Happy President's Day! Tuesday, February 17th at 11:30 am: At the Atlantic Council, General James L. Jones, Jr. will deliver a keynote address on America's Role in the World. Afterwards, Frederick Kempe will moderate a discussion with James N. Miller and Stephen E. Biegun. Ambassador Jon Huntsman, Jr. will provide introductory remarks. RSVP. Tuesday, February 17th at 4 pm: Later at the Atlantic Council, General John Allen, Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL, will outline the future of the fight against the Islamic State. How will the coalition be sustained? Over time, how will the coalition define success? And, can the fight ultimately be won? Fred Kempe will moderate the conversation. Wednesday, February 18th at 9 am: The ongoing conflicts in Syria, Iraq, and Ukraine have consumed most of Washington's attention over the last year, but consequential wars are waging elsewhere too. The Brookings Institution will hold an event entitled Yemen and Libya: The Middle East's Other Civil Wars. Daniel Byman will moderate a conversation between panelists Sama'a Al-Hamdani, Ibrahim Sharqieh, and Barbara Bodine. Register here. Wednesday, February 18th at 2:30 pm: Later at Brookings, Thomas Wright, Fiona Hill, Clifford G. Gaddy, and Jill Dougherty will discuss the factors that are motivating Russian President Vladimir Putin in his assault on Ukraine. Entitled Mr. Putin: Operative in the Kremlin, the panelists will explore his motivations and methods while dispelling potentially dangerous misconceptions about Putin. More information here. Thursday, February 19th at 4:45 pm: The Schieffer Series at the Center for Strategic and International Studies will hold a conversation on Countering Violent Extremism. Hosted by Bob Schieffer, the panel will include Farah Pandith, Nancy Youssef, and Juan C. Zarate. Register here. Friday, February 20th at 12 pm: At the George Washington School of Law, Jeffery Rosen will deliver an address asking Should there be a "Right to be Forgotten?" Following the European Court of Justice's May 2014 decision that Google must recognize this "right" and the hundreds of thousands of requests Google has since received, what can we expect for the future of freedom of expression and information on the internet?
