White House Releases Memo on Cybersecurity at Federal Agencies

The White House Office of Management and Budget released a memo that announces new measures to strengthen cybersecurity within federal agencies. The memo indicates that in response to cyberattacks on private and public U.S. infrastructure, federal agencies will be transitioning to a “zero trust” approach to cybersecurity. A zero trust approach assumes that no actor, system or network operating outside the security perimeter is to be trusted. The strategy will require stronger identity and access controls and agencies are instructed to take an inventory of every device authorized for official use, among other measures. The changes are intended to help agencies quickly and effectively isolate threats.
