The event featured a keynote address from David Lampton, professor emeritus of China Studies at Johns Hopkins University, and panel discussions covering tensions in the Taiwan Strait, technological competition, the Biden administration’s grand strategy, and more.

Monday, May 22, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a fireside chat with the European Commissioner for Transport Adina Vӑlean. Atlantic Council Nonresident Senior Fellow Ilva Tare will moderate the discussion about avenues for European Union countries to support Ukrainian infrastructure and commerce in the ongoing conflict. 

Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will host an event to discuss how innovative technologies, such as the mobile application Diia, enable Ukrainians’ access to vital government services. The event will feature Samantha Power, administrator of USAID; Mykhailo Fedorov, vice prime minister of Ukraine; and Kara Swisher, editor-at-large of New York Magazine.

Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a discussion about the Marine Corps’ role in American defense strategy and its efforts to adapt to an increasingly complex security environment. The event will feature remarks from Gen. David H. Berger, 38th commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps. The discussion will be moderated by Melanie W. Sisson, fellow at the Brookings Institution, and Michael E. O’Hanlon, director of foreign policy research at Brookings. Suzanne Maloney, vice president of the Brookings Institution, will provide introductory remarks.

Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host a seminar to discuss how artificial intelligence can facilitate disinformation, and challenge election integrity and data privacy. The conversation will feature remarks from Cecilia Kang and Sheera Frenkel, both reporters for the New York Times, and moderator Nate Persily, co-director of the Stanford Cyber Policy Center.

Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host a discussion about the impact of China’s Belt and Road Initiative on the global south. The event will feature remarks from Nara Sritharan, postdoctoral fellow at AidData; Matt Ferchen, senior fellow at the Leiden Asia Centre; Matthew Erie, associate professor at the University of Oxford; and Jonathan Solis, senior research analyst at AidData. The conversation will be moderated by Shihoko Goto, director for geoeconomics and Indo-Pacific enterprise for the Wilson Center’s Asia Program, and Jacques deLisle, professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. ET: The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) will host a conversation about the Biden administration’s funding of broadband development across the United States. The discussion will be introduced by Mark Jamison, nonresident senior fellow at AEI, and feature four panelists: Janice Hauge, professor at the University of North Texas; James Prieger, professor at Pepperdine University; Greg Rosston, senior fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research; and Scott Wallsten, president of the Technology Policy Institute. Jamison will moderate the conversation.

Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a discussion about the strategic trajectory of Taiwan, in the context of Indo-Pacific competition. The event will begin with introductory remarks by Mireya Solís, director of the Brookings Center for East Asia Policy Studies, and feature four panelists: Bonnie Glaser, managing director of the Indo-Pacific Program; Richard C. Bush, nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution; Shelley Rigger, professor at Davidson College; and Kharis Templeman, research fellow at the Hoover Institution. The conversation will be moderated by Ryan Hass, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.

Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host a seminar to examine the economic and political challenges posed by oligarchs in pre-war Ukraine. The event will feature Stan Markus, associate professor at the University of South Carolina, and ​​Kathryn Stoner, senior fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute, will moderate.

Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. ET: Bellingcat will host a discussion about the origins of fascism and its impacts on journalistic and intellectual communities. The event will feature Jason Stanley, recent author of "How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them.”

Friday, May 26, 2023 at 8:30 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a webcast to discuss India’s role in the international order. The conversation will feature Tanvi Madan, director of the Brookings Institution’s India Project; Garima Mohan, senior fellow at Brookings; and C. Raja Mohan, senior fellow at the Brookings.
