Monday, June 5, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution hosted a webinar on the threats facing refugees and migrants in Tunisia—from unsafe border crossings to authoritarianism and remarks from the Tunisian president. The discussion, hosted in cooperation with Refugees International, featured Romdhane Ben Amor, spokesperson for the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights; Salsabil Chellali, Tunisia director at Human Rights Watch; Reva Dhingra, post-doctoral research fellow at Brookings; Houda Mzioudet, researcher at the University of Toronto; and moderators Sharan Grewal, Brookings nonresident fellow at the Center for Middle East Policy and Nicholas Noe, senior visiting fellow at Refugees International.

Monday, June 5, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council hosted a discussion on the competition between the United States and China to drive AI development and to establish global norms governing its use. The discussion featured Klon Kitchen, nonresident senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute; Dahlia Peterson, research analyst at the Center for Security and Emerging Technology, Christabel Randolph, law fellow at the Center for AI & Digital Policy; David Spirk, senior counselor at Palantir Technologies; and moderator Ryan Heath, global technology correspondent at Axios. The event also featured remarks from Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla).

Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will host an event with Kevin Rudd, Australia’s new ambassador to the United States. Rudd will deliver keynote remarks, which will be followed by a conversation between Rudd and CSIS Senior Adviser and Australia Chair Charles Edel.

Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. ET: The House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement will hold a hearing to discuss the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) failure to prepare for the end of Title 42. The committee will hear from Benjamine “Carry” Huffman, acting deputy commissioner for Customs and Border Protection, and Blas Nuñez-Neto, assistant security for border and immigration policy at DHS. 

Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a conversation on the role of the U.S. Transportation Command in national security, the state of its warfighting readiness, and how its strategy fits into the National Defense Strategy. The conversation will feature Gen. Jacqueline D. Van Ovost, commander of U.S. Transportation Command, and will be moderated by Michael E. O’Hanlon, senior fellow and director of research in foreign policy at the Brookings Institution; and Col. Jason Wolff, federal executive fellow in foreign policy at the Brookings Institution.   

Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The House Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a hearing on strengthening American leadership in blockchain technology. The committee has yet to release a witness list. 

Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. ET: The House Committee on Natural Resources will hold a hearing to discuss ongoing cybersecurity threats within the Department of the Interior. The hearing will involve two panels. Witnesses in the first panel include Marisol Cruz Cain, director of information technology and cybersecurity at the Government Accountability Office, and Mark Greenblatt, inspector general at the Department of the Interior. Witnesses in the second panel include Brian Cavanaugh, fellow for cybersecurity, intelligence, and homeland security at the Heritage Foundation; Dean Chang, senior advisor in the China program at the U.S. Institute of Peace; T. Charles Clancy Sr., senior vice president and general manager at MITRE labs; and Rhea Siers, senior advisor of cyber risk at Teneo.

Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. ET: The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a hearing to discuss aligning transatlantic approaches on China. Witnesses will include Noah Barkin, senior visiting fellow in the Indo-Pacific program at the German Marshall Fund; Janka Oertel, Asia program director and senior policy fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations; and Andrew Small, senior transatlantic fellow in the Indo-Pacific program at the German Marshall Fund.

Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 3:30 p.m. ET: CSIS will host a conversation with María Corina Machado, Venezuelan primary presidential candidate. Machado will join Ryan C. Berg, director of CSIS’s Americas Program, and Christopher Hernandez-Roy, deputy director and senior fellow at the Americas Program, to discuss the upcoming presidential elections in 2024, the Nicolás Maduro regime, necessary reforms, and opportunities for the U.S. and allies to support those campaigning for democratic change in Venezuela.  

Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. ET: CSIS will host a discussion on why the security of Taiwan matters and the threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party to a free and prosperous Taiwan. The discussion will feature Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Ark.) and will be moderated by Victor Cha, CSIS senior vice president for Asia and Korea chair.

Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace will host a discussion on China’s growing influence in the Middle East. The discussion will feature Benjamin Ho, assistant professor with the China program at the S, Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore; Yu Jie, senior research fellow on China in the Asia-Pacific program at Chatham House; and Maha Yahya, director of the Malcolm H. Kerr Carnegie Middle East Center. The discussion will be moderated by Paul Haenle, Maurice R. Greenberg Director’s Chair holder at Carnegie.
