Monday, Feb. 14, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.: The Atlantic Council will host the UC San Diego conference on digital currency in China and the Asia Pacific. The event will feature a keynote discussion on the cutting edge applications of digital currencies in Asia with Mu Changchun of the People’s Bank of China, and will be followed by an expert panel discussion. The panel will feature Caroline Freund, dean of the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy; Josh Lipsky, director of the Atlantic Council GeoEconomics Center; Victor Shih, Ho Miu Lam chair in China and Pacific Relations at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy; Jeremy Allaire, chairman and CEO at Circle; He Yifan, CEO at Red Date Technology; and Siddharth Tiwari, chief representative of the BIS Office for Asia and the Pacific. The panel will be moderated by Olga Kharif, technology reporter at Bloomberg News. 

Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.: Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution will host a fireside chat on the future of American democracy with U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin. The event will feature a conversation between Rep. Raskin and Brookings President John Allen. Following their conversation, a panel of Brookings scholars will discuss the most urgent threats to democracy and identify steps that must be taken to ensure its stability for future generations. The panel will feature Brookings fellows Sarah A. Binder, Rashawn Ray, Fiona Hill, Molly E. Reynolds and Quinta Jurecic. 

Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 at 12:00 p.m.: The Europe Center at the Atlantic Council will launch a report on the Afghan refugee crisis and what the transatlantic community can do to address it and future refugee crises. The launch event will feature a conversation between Atlantic Council Senior Fellow Ben Judah; Rory Stewart, senior fellow at the Jackson Institute at Yale University; Ratna Omidvar, senator for Ontario, Canada; and Orzala Nemat, director of the Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit. 

Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.: The House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on International Development, International Organizations and Global Social Impact will hold a hearing on the goals, priorities and successes of renewed American engagement with international organizations. The committee will hear testimony from Michele J. Sison, assistant secretary at the Bureau of International Organization Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. 

Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.: The House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security will hold a hearing on confronting the surge of firearms found at TSA checkpoints. The subcommittee will hear testimony from Balram Bheodari, general manager of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport; Greh Regan, president of the transportation trades department at AFL-CIO; Jason D. Wallis, chief of police at Port of Portland, who is testifying on behalf of the Airport Law Enforcement Agencies Network; and Ralph Cutié, director and chief executive officer of  the Miami International Airport. 

Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.: The Wilson Center will host a discussion titled Russia and Ukraine on the Brink. The event will feature Michele Flournoy, former U.S. under secretary of Defense for Policy.  

Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 at 2:30 p.m: The House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis will hold a hearing on strategies for grid resilience and reliability. The hearing will review Bipartisan Infrastructure Law policies and investments that would improve grid resilience and consider which additional climate investments are needed. The select committee will hear testimony from Nancy Sutley, senior assistant general manager of external and regulatory affairs at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power; Karen Waylan, chief executive officer of GridWise Alliance; Katherine Hamilton, chair of 38 North Solutions and of the Global Future Council on Clean Electrification at the World Economic Forum; and Mark Mills, senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. 

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.: The Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation will hold a hearing to examine the Western Balkans, focusing on supporting peace and prosperity. The subcommittee will hear testimony from Gabriel Escobar, special representative for the Western Balkans and deputy assistant secretary  of state for European and Eurasian affairs at the U.S. Department of State. 

Wednesday, Feb. 16 , 2022 at 10:00 a.m.: The House Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on  National Security will hold a hearing on defending U.S. allies and interests against Russian  aggression in Eastern Europe. The subcommittee will hear testimony from Michael McFaul, director of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University; Andrea Kendall-Taylor, director of the Transatlantic Security Program at the Center for a New American Security; Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, Pershing Chair in strategic studies at the Center for European Policy Analysis; and Richard Grenell; former acting director of national intelligence.  

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022 at 1:30 p.m.: The House Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on leveraging the global Black diaspora to strengthen U.S. foreign investment and assistance. The committee will hear testimony from Vera Songwe, under-secretary-general and executive secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa; Clair Nelson, founder and president of the Institute of Caribbean Studies; and Luana Ozemela, chief executive officer of Development Impact Managers and Advisors. 

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.: The Senate Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a hearing to examine reinvigorating U.S.-Colombia relations. The committee will hear testimony from Brian A. Nichols, assistant secretary of state for western hemisphere affairs at the U.S. Department of State; Todd D. Robinson, assistant secretary of state for international narcotics and law enforcement affairs at the U.S. Department of  State; Marcela Escobar, assistant administrator for Latin America and the Caribbean at the U.S. Agency for International Development; Dan Restrepo, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress; and Celina B. Realuyo, adjunct professor at the George Washington University School of International Affairs. 

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.: The House Administration will hold a hearing on privacy risks and needed reforms in the public and private sectors. The committee has not yet released a witness list.  

Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.: The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security will hold a hearing on the rise in violence against minority institutions. The subcommittee has not yet released a witness list. 

Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.: The House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia and Nonproliferation will hold a hearing on the Burma crisis, one year after the coup. The subcommittee will hear testimony from Craig Hart, deputy assistant administrator of the Bureau for East Asia and the Pacific at the U.S. Agency for International Development; and Kin Moy, principal deputy assistant secretary at the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. 

Thursday, Feb. 17,  2022 at 3:00 p.m.: The House Administration Committee will hold a hearing on oversight of the Jan. 6th Capitol attack which will examine the ongoing review of the United States Capitol Police inspector general flash reports. The committee has not yet released a witness list. 

Friday, Feb. 18, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.: Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies will host a research seminar on providing health care access for undocumented immigrants. The event will feature Adrienne Sabety, an assistant professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Notre Dame.
