Monday, March 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.: The Brookings Institution will host a panel discussion on the future of Section 230 reform. Panelists include: Benjamin Wittes, Brookings senior fellow and editor-in-chief of Lawfare; Quinta Jurecic, Brookings fellow and senior editor of Lawfare; Danielle Citron, professor at the University of Virginia, School of Law; and Kate D’Adamo, partner at Reframe Health and Justice Consulting.
Monday, March 14, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.: The Wilson Center will host a conversation with Catherine Ashton on the crisis in Ukraine. Ashton, the European Union’s first high representative for foreign affairs and security will sit down with Wilson Center CEO Amb. Mark Green to discuss the impact Russia’s war on Ukraine is having on Europe and the role of Vladimir Putin.
Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.: The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a hearing to examine the management of federal and presidential records. The committee will hear testimony from Jason R. Baron, professor at the University of Maryland; Anne Wiesmann, outside counsel for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington and the Project on Government Oversight; and Jonathan Turley, professor at the George Washington University Law School.
Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.: Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies will host a seminar on mother nature, bioweapons and lab accidents: guarding against the next global biological catastrophe. The event will feature remarks from Jaime Yassif, senior director and lead scientist at the Nuclear Threat Initiative.
Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 10:05 a.m.: The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on violent extremeism and terrorism in houses of worship and public spaces. The committee will hear testimony from Ryan T. Young, executive assistant director of the intelligence branch at the FBI; Stephanie Dobitsh, deputy under secretary for intelligence enterprise operations at the office of intelligence and analysis at the Department of Homeland Security; Christopher Logan, deputy assistant administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency; and Marcus Coleman, director of the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the Department of Homeland Security.
Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.: The House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East, North Africa and Global Counterterrorism will hold a hearing on the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict in Syria. The subcommittee will hear testimony from Jomana Qaddour, head of the Syria Project at the Atlantic Council; Hardin Lang, vice president for programs and policy at Refugees International; Nirvana Shawky, regional director for the Middle East and North Africa at CARE; and Joel Rayburn, fellow at the New America Foundation.
Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 4:30 p.m.: The Africa Center at the Atlantic Council will host an event with Patrick Achi, Prime Minister of the Ivory Coast. Ahi will sit down with experts to discuss the Ivory Coast Vision 230—a large development strategy that aims at improving the business environment, boosting the role of the private sector and fostering job creation. Other speakers at the event include Mary C. Yates, board director at the Atlantic Council; Marco Margheri, head of U.S. relations at ENI New Energy; Julian Pecquet, Washington/U.N. correspondent at Jeune Afrique/The Africa Report; Lauren Kouassi-Olsson, founder of Birimian; and Amb. Rama Yade, senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center.
Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.: The House Homeland Security Committee will hold a hearing on the targeting of Black institutions such as churches and universities. The committee will hear testimony from Rev. Eric S.C. Manning, pastor at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC; Thomas K. Hudson, president of Jackson State University; and Janai Nelson, associate director and counsel of the NAACP legal defense fund.
Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.: The Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on understanding the role of digital assets in illicit finance. The committee will hear testimony from Jonathan Levin, co-founder and chief strategy officer at Chainalysis, Inc.
Friday, March 18, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.: The Wilson Center will host an event examining authoritarian regimes and academic freedom. Experts will participate in a panel discussion on the effects academic repression has on universities and society, and how academics are pushing back. Panelists include: Andrea Peto, professor at the Central European University; Ernesto Medina Sandino, former record at the Universidad Americana in Nicaragua; Catherine Andrews, professor at the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics in Mexico; and Aslihan Aykac, professor at Ege University in Turkey.
Friday, March 18, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.: The Project on International Order and Strategy at the Brookings Institution will host an event to discuss the new geopolitics of state fragility. Experts will discuss the increasingly stiff competition the West faces for influence in development policy in general, and in fragile states specifically. The event will feature a panel discussion with Alexandre Marc, member of the Institute for Integrated Transitions; Bruce Jones, Brookings senior fellow; Madiha Afzal, Brookings fellow; and Lina Benabdallah, assistant professor at Wake Forest University.
