Monday, April 4, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a public conversation on the EU Strategic Compass and EU-U.S. defense cooperation. The event will feature remarks from Amb. Charles Fries, deputy secretary-general for Common Security and Defense Policy and Crisis Response at the European External Action Service; and Molly Montgomery, deputy assistant secretary at the State Department Bureau of European & Eurasian Affairs.

Monday, April 4, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host a seminar on the war in Ukraine and prospects for peace. The event will feature remarks from Scott Sagan, co-director of the Stanford Center for International Security and Cooperation; Kathryn Stoner, director of the Stanford Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law; Roman Badanin, journalist, researcher and founder of Proekt; and Yuliia Bezvershenko, visiting scholar at the Stanford Ukrainian Emerging Leaders Program. 

Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The House Homeland Security Committee will hold a hearing on securing critical infrastructure against Russian cyber threats. The committee will hear testimony from Adam Meyers, senior vice president for intelligence at Crowdstrike; Steve Silberstein, chief executive officer of Financial Services Information and Analysis Center; Kevin M. Morley, manager of federal relations at American Water Works Association; and Amit Yoran, chairman and chief executive officer of Teneble, Inc. 

Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. ET: The House Armed Services Subcommittee on Cyber, Innovative Technologies, and Information Systems will hold a hearing on operations in cyberspace and building cyber capabilities across the Defense Department. The subcommittee will hear testimony from John F. Plumb, incoming principal cyber advisor to the secretary of defense at the Defense Department; and Gen. Paul M. Nakasone, commander of U.S. Cyber Command and director of the National Security Agency. 

Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The House Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs will hold a hearing on U.S. international assistance to combat narcotics trafficking. The subcommittee will hear testimony from James Walsh, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs at the State Department.  

Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Personnel will hold a hearing on suicide prevention and related behavioral health interventions in the Department of Defense. The subcommittee will hear testimony from Beth Zimmer Carter, the mother of an army veteran who died by suicide; Karin Orvis, director of the Defense Suicide Prevention Office at the Defense Department; Richard Mooney, acting deputy assistant secretary of defense for health services policy and oversight at the Department of Defense; Michael Roark, deputy inspector general of the evaluations component at the Defense Department; Brenda Farrell, director of defense capabilities and managment at the Government Accountability Office; Chris Ford, chief executive officer of Stop Soldier Suicide; P. Murali Doraiswamy, professor of psychiatry and medicine at Duke University School of Medicine; and Craig Bryan, director of the division of recovery and resilience and suicide prevention program at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. 

Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a discussion on managing strategic competition to avoid war between China and the United States. The event will feature remarks from Kevin Rudd, Asia Society President and CEO and former Prime Minister of Australia; and Frederick Kempe, Atlantic Council President and CEO. 

Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host a panel discussion on recent developments in cybersecurity law. Panelists will offer pragmatic advice on compliance and litigation strategy as well as big picture insights on the direction of U.S. cybersecurity policy. Panelists include: Travis LeBlanc, vice chair of the cyber/data/privacy practice at Cooley LLP; Alicia Lowery Rosenbaum, vice president and associate general counsel for cybersecurity technology and trust at Salesforce; Jim Dempsey, senior policy advisor for the Program on Geopolitics, Technology and Governance at Stanford’s Cyber Policy Center; and Andrew J. Grotto, director of the Program on Geopolitics, Technology, and Governance. 

Friday, April 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host the annual Justice Stephen Breyer Lecture on International Law that will feature a keynote address on crimes against humanity, genocide and ecocide. The Brookings Foreign Policy Program will host Philippe Sands, professor of law at University College London and Samuel and Judith Pisar visiting professor of law at Harvard Law School, for a keynote address on rights, responsibilities, and international order. The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Sands; Diane Marie Amann, professor of international law at the University of Georgia School of Law; Sean D. Murphy, professor of international law at The George Washington University Law School; Jane Stromseth, professor of international law at Georgetown School of Law; and Ted Piccone, Brookings nonresident senior fellow.
