Monday, April 18, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a webcast onwhat comes after the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s  sixth assessment report?” The event will focus on analyzing the report released by Working Group 3 on Mitigation of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The report is intended to provide policymakers with regular assessments of the scientific basis of climate change. Brookings will host an expert panel to discuss key findings in the report and what comes next in terms of climate policymaking. Panelists include: Sarah Kaplan, climate reporter for the Washington Post; Amar Bhattacharya, Brookings senior fellow; Barry G. Rabe, Brookings nonresident senior fellow; Dana R. Fisher, Brookings nonresident senior fellow; Elaine Kamarck, Brookings senior fellow; and Max Boykoff, professor at the University of Colorado Boulder. 

Monday, April 18, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host a webinar about Japan’s foreign policy in the aftermath of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Panelists include: Yoko Iwaama, professor at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies; Hiroyuki Akita, commentator of Nikkei; and Kiyoteru Tsutsui, senior fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. 

Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a conversation with H.E. Ali Allawi, Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, about issues facing Iraq, including renewed fears of the coronavirus, inflation, oil price fluctuations and policy uncertainty. The event will be moderated by David Mack, nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council. 

Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 8:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host an online event about what should be done about the future of Myanmar. The event will feature remarks from Nyantha Maw Lin, an independent analyst with experience in government affairs, public policy, and political risk assessment related to Myanmar; and Scot Marciel, former U.S. ambassador to Myanmar. 

Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host an event to discuss whether Ukraine’s audacious strikes are a prelude to phase two of the war. The event will feature a panel discussion with John Herbst; senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center; retired Gen. Phillip Breedlove, former Supreme Allied Commander Europe; retired Adm.  James G. Foggo, dean of the Navy League of the United States’ Center for Maritime Strategy; Hanna Shelest, director of security studies at the Foreign Policy Council “Ukrainian Prism;” and William Taylor, vice president for Russia and Europe at the U.S. Institute of Peace.

Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host an event on digital humanism and how to put humans at the center of emerging tech. The event will feature remarks from Hannes Werthner, co-founder of the Digital Humanism Initiative; Allison Stanger, professor at Middlebury College; Hannah Metzler, post-doc at the Computational Social Science Lab at the Complexity Science Hub Vienna; Michael Stampfer, managing director of the vienna science and technology fund; and Elizabeth M. H. Newbury, acting director of the Science and Technology Innovation Program. 

Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host an event to examine how close the U.S. is to universal broadband. The event will feature a fireside chat between Nicol Turner Lee, Brookings senior fellow; and Alan Davidson, assistant secretary of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration; and will be followed by a panel discussion. Panelists featured include: Lee; Fallon Wilson, co-founder of #BlackTechFutures Research Institute; Matt Ratanen, director of technology at the Southern California Tribal Chairmen’s Association; Peggy Schaffer, executive director of ConnectME; and Diane Wells, deputy director of the Minnesota Office of Broadband Development. 

Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host a discussion with Icelandic Foreign Minister Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörd Gylfadóttir about Arctic cooperation in the shadow of Russian aggression. The event will be moderated by Michael Sfraga; chair and distinguished fellow of the Wilson Center’s Polar Institute. Welcoming remarks will be made by Mark Green, president, director and CEO of the Wilson Center. 

Friday, April 22, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host an event entitled “Climate change: Tackling a global challenge in Africa.” The event will feature a panel discussion with Mahmoud Mohieldin, executive director of the International Monetary Fund; Nyombi Morris, climate activist at Fridays for Future Uganda; Jeanine Mabunda Lioko, member of parliament for Bumba in the  Democratic Republic of Congo; Paul Okwi, senior program specialist at the International Development Research Center; Ede Ijjasz-Vasquez, Brookings nonresident senior fellow; and Aloysius Uche Ordu, Brookings senior fellow. 

Friday, April 22, 2022 at 9:00 p.m.: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host a lecture on U.S.-China relations in the age of uncertainty. The event will feature remarks from Yasheng Hyand, professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Scott Rozelle, senior fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.
