Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. ET: The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) will host an event to discuss the new book, “America’s Great-Power Opportunity,” by Ali Wyne. The book examines the role of the “great-power competition” framework in the future of U.S. foreign policy. The event will feature a conversation between Kathleen McInnis, CSIS senior fellow, and Wyne.
Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: CSIS will host an event to examine the economic future of Hong Kong following the enactment of Beijing’s National Security Law in 2020. The event will feature a keynote address by Hanscom Smith, consul general representing the United States to Hong Kong and Macau, and an expert panel moderated by CSIS Freeman Chair in China StudiesJude Blanchette. Panelists include: Jessica Bartlett, global head of financial crime legal at Barclays; Tara Joseph, senior director at Strategy Risks; and Charles Monk, former member of the Legislative Council in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host an event to evaluate the implications of Pakistan’s likely removal from the Financial Action Task Force greylist. The event will feature introductory remarks by Uzair Younus, director of the Pakistan Initiative at the Atlantic Council; and a discussion between Taimur Malik, partner at Clyde & Co., and Ali Sultan, CEO for Global Financial Institutions at Habib Bank AG Zurich. The discussion will be moderated by Ali Farid Khwaja, chairman of KTrade Security, and Ariba Shahid, business and economic journalist at Profit.
Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: CSIS will host a press briefing where experts will discuss President Biden’s upcoming visit to the Middle East and its geopolitical implications. The event will include a Q&A period and statements from CSIS experts Jon B. Alterman, Ben Cahill, Marti Flacks, and Emily Harding.
Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host an event to discuss the importance of attracting global STEM talent in maintaining American national security. The event will feature a conversation between Christine H. Fox, former acting deputy secretary of defense at the Department of Defense; General (ret.) Joseph L. Votel, former commander of the U.S. Central Command; Blanchette; and Brookings senior fellow Ryan Hass.
Friday, July 8, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a panel discussion to examine China’s role as a leading buyer of Russian energy amid Western sanctions on Russian energy exports. Panelists include: Edward C. Chow, CSIS scholar; Erica Downs, scholar at Columbia University SIPA; Amy Myers Jaffe, professor at The Fletcher School at Tufts University; Brian O’Toole, Atlantic Council fellow; and John E.Herbst, senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center.
