Monday, July 25, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution hosted a panel discussion evaluating the current state of U.N. state-building missions in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and Somalia. Panelists included: A. Heather Coyne, senior security sector reform officer at the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary General for Yemen; Adam Day, head of the Geneva Office at the Centre for Policy Research at United Nations University; Richard Gowan, U.N. director, New York at the International Crisis Group; Rachel Kleinfeld, senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; and Vanda Felbab-Brown, director at the Initiative on Nonstate Armed Actors.

Monday, July 25, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council hosted an event to discuss Iran-Iraq relations. The event featured discussion between Abbas Kadhim, director for the Iraq Initiative; Mohsen Milani, professor of politics at the University of South Florida; Randa Slim, senior fellow at the Middle East Institute; and Ahmed Tabaqchali, nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council.

Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) will host its 12th annual conference to analyze the political situation in the South China Sea. The event will feature discussions about force posture, the Quad, and dispute management, among other topics. Rep. Rob Wittman and Ely Ratner, assistant secretary of defense for Indo-Pacific security affairs at the Defense Department are slated to give keynote speeches.

Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a discussion with former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper about his recent Atlantic Council delegation trip to Taiwan. The event will be moderated by Lingling Wei, chief China correspondent at The Wall Street Journal, and will include opening remarks from Atlantic Council President Frederick Kempe. Closing remarks will be delivered by Atlantic Council Senior Vice President Barry Pavel.

Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace will host a panel discussion to evaluate the impact of the war in Ukraine on the Middle East and Asia. Panelists include: Cinzia Bianco, research fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations; Rudra Chaudhuri, director of Carnegie India; Frederic Wehrey, Carnegie senior fellow; Elizabeth Wishnick, senior research scientist at the Center for Naval Analyses; and Maha Yahya, Malcolm H. Kerr Carnegie Middle East Center.

Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: CSIS will host a discussion with U.K National Security Adviser Stephen Lovegrove about the current state of arms control before next month’s Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Review Conference. CSIS President and CEO John J. Hamre and CSIS Senior Vice President Seth G. Jones will also participate in the discussion.

Friday, July 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host an event to discuss U.S.-Colombia relations in light of the bicentennial of the two countries’ diplomatic relations this year. The event will feature discussion between Ambassador of Colombia to the United States Juan Carlos Pinzón and Brookings Senior Fellow Vanda Felbab-Brown. The discussion will be moderated by Brookings Senior Fellow Michael O’Hanlon.

Friday, July 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: CSIS will host an event to evaluate U.S. nuclear strategy amid recent geopolitical developments such as Russia’s war in Ukraine. The event will feature three panel events, covering issues ranging from the U.S. Nuclear Posture Review process to integrated deterrence.
