Monday, August 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) hosted a webcast panel to analyze the current state of Afghanistan one-year after the Taliban takeover. The event featured a discussion between Bill O’Keefe, executive vice president for mission, mobilization, and advocacy at Catholic Relief Services; Lt. General Michael K. Nagata (Ret.), former director of the Directorate of Strategic Operational Planning at the Counterterrorism Center; Rep. Peter Meijer (R-Mich.); and CSIS scholars Daniel F. Runde, P. Michael McKinley, Earl Anthony Wayne, Annie Pforzheimer, and Fawzia Koofi.

Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host an event to analyze the relationship between India and Pakistan over the last 75 years. The event will feature discussion between Wilson Center fellows Ahbar Ahmed, former Pakistan high commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, and Nirupama Rao, former Indian foreign secretary and former ambassador to Washington and Beijing. The conversation will be moderated by Michael Kugelman, deputy director of the Asia Program at the Wilson Center, and John Milewski, director of digital programming at the Wilson Center.

Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies will host an event to discuss the work and outcomes of six Local Democracy in Action Grantees. Local Democracy in Action grants fund partnerships designed to fortify local communities from democratic challenges. The event will feature remarks from Francis Fukuyama, Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies senior fellow.

Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host an event to evaluate Iraq’s role as a regional power and the potential power struggles which may undermine its political position. Featured speakers include: Omar Al-Nidawi, director of programs at the Enabling Peace in Iraq Center; Katherine Harvey, adjunct professor at Georgetown University; Shamiran Mako, professor at Boston University; and David Des Roches, professor at the National Defense University.

Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. ET: CSIS will host an event to discuss Australia’s response to Chinese efforts to influence the country’s democracy and silence critics of the Chinese government. CSIS fellow will moderate a discussion between John Garnaut, senior risk advisor at McGrathNicol; John Fistzgerald, professor at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute and Swinburne University of Technology; and Sophie McNeil, researcher at Human Rights Watch.
