Monday, October 31, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI) at Stanford University hosted a panel discussion to examine how the war in Ukraine could end. The panel featured H.R. McMaster, the Fouad and Michelle Ajami senior fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution; Kathryn Stoner, the Mosbacher director of the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law; and Steven Pifer, nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.   

Monday, October 31, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a virtual discussion about the Brazilian presidential election, what the top priorities are for the new administration, and how the next Brazilian president can restore trust in the country’s political system. The event will feature remarks from Fernanda Magnotta, a UOL columnist; Renata Amaral, adjunct professor of law at American University’s Washington College of Law; Jason Marczak, senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center; and Valentina Sader, associate director and Brazil lead at the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center. 

Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a virtual panel event to discuss the emerging battlefield technologies used in the war in Ukraine. The panel will feature Margarita Konaev, deputy director of analysis and research fellow at Georgetown University’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology; Gavin Wilde, senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s Technology and International Affairs program; Samuel Bendett, analyst at the Center for Naval Analyses’ Russia Studies program; Tom Stefanick, visiting fellow at the Strobe Talbott Center for Security, Strategy, and Technology; and Jaclyn A. Kerr, nonresident fellow at the Strobe Talbott Center for Security Strategy and Technology. The panel will be moderated by Amy J. Nelson, the David M. Rubenstein fellow at the Strobe Talbott Center for Security, Strategy, and Technology. Michael E. O’Hanlon, director of the Strobe Talbott Center for Security, Strategy, and Technology will provide introductory remarks. 

Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI) at Stanford University will host a conversation about the impact of artificial intelligence on consumption of political news and the effects of algorithmic vs. community label on perceived accuracy of hyperpartisan misinformation. The event will feature remarks from Chenyan Jia, a postdoctoral scholar in Stanford’s Program on Democracy and the Internet and will be moderated by Nathaniel Persily, James B. McClatchy professor of law at Stanford Law School. 

Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will host a conversation focusing on the priorities of India as it prepares to assume the Presidency of the G20 on December 1st. The conversation will feature Amitabh Kant, the G20 Sherpa for the government of India, and Richard M. Rossow, senior advisor and Wadhwani Chair in U.S.-India Policy Studies at CSIS.   

Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a conversation about the perils of focusing artificial intelligence (AI) development on systems that outmatch human capabilities.. The conversation will feature remarks from Erik Brynjolfsson, the Jerry Yang and Akiko Yamazaki professor and senior fellow at the Stanford Institute for Human Centered AI and director of the Stanford Digital Economy Lab. The conversation will be hosted by Anton Korinek, the David M. Rubenstein fellow at the Brookings Institution’s Center on Regulation and Markets. 

Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host an event to discuss the electrification of U.S. military vehicles and the tactical, operational, and strategic advantages it provides. The event will feature keynote remarks from Douglas R. Bush, assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics, and technology. The event will also feature an expert panel. Panelists include: Jim Khoury, director of electrification outside sales and new business development at GM Defense LLC; Sharon Burke, former assistant secretary of defense for operational energy; and Tate Nurkin, nonresident senior fellow at the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security. The panel discussion will be moderated by Jen Judson, land warfare reporter at Defense News.

Friday, November 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) will host a panel discussion on effective content moderation on social media platforms in the context of the upcoming midterm elections. The panel will feature remarks from Spencer Davis, founding partner at Guadalupe Strategies; Samir Jain, director of policy at the Center for Democracy and Technology; Quinta Jurecic, Lawfare senior editor and fellow at the Brookings Institution. The panel will be moderated by Shane Tews, nonresident senior fellow at AEI. 

Friday, November 4, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will host a conversation about the Defense Department’s recently released Missile Defense Review. John F. Plumb, assistant secretary of Defense for Space Policy will discuss the report and its implications for missile defense in the future. Tom Karako, director of the CSIS Missile Defense Project, will moderate the conversation.
