Monday, November 14, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution’s Strobe Talbott Center for Security, Strategy and Technology will host a virtual discussion on U.S. defense innovation in an era of great power competition and potential conflict. The discussion will feature Christian Brose, chief strategy officer at Anduril Industries; David A. Ochmanek, senior defense analyst at the RAND Corporation; and Caitlin Talmadge, nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. The panel will be moderated by Michael E. O’Hanlon, director of the Strobe Talbott Center for Security, Strategy and Technology at Brookings. 

Monday, November 14, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. ET: Stanford’s Freeman Spogli Institute will host a talk on the early Chinese Communist Party’s creation of a system for controlled circulation of intelligence. The talk will feature remarks from Daniel Leese, professor of Chinese history and politics at the University of Freiburg, Germany. Andrew G. Walder, senior fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute, will moderate the discussion. 

Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. ET: The House Committee on Homeland Security will hold a hearing focused on worldwide threats to the homeland. The committee will hear testimony from Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security; Christopher Wray, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and Christie Abizaid, director of the National Counterterrorism Center at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will host a discussion about the importance of Ukraine’s agricultural industry to the country’s economic recovery. The discussion will feature Kees Huizinga, a Ukrainian farmer; Mark Simakovsky; deputy assistant administrator at the U.S. Agency for International Development; Antonina Broyaka, agricultural economist at Kansas State University; and Caitlin Welsh, director of CSIS’s Global Food Security Program. 

Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 10 a.m.. ET: The House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Energy, the Environment, and Cyber will hold a hearing to examine Russia’s declining global influence. The committee will hear testimony from Ernest J. Moniz, CEO of Energy Futures Initiative and the Nuclear Threat Initiative; Heather Conley, president of the German Marshall Fund of the United States; and Daleep Singh, chief global economist of PGIM Fixed Income.

Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a conversation about Russia’s recent retreat from Kherson and what’s next for the Ukrainian counteroffensive. The conversation will feature Jennifer Cafarella, chief of staff at the Institute of the Study of War; Gen. (ret.) Wesley Clark, former Supreme Allied Commander Europe; John Herbst, senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center; and Andriy Zagorodnyuk, former minister of defense of Ukraine. The panel will be moderated by Melinda Haring, deputy director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center. 

Thursday, November 17, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. ET: The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace will host an event examining the prospect of political change in Turkey, and Turkish foreign policy. The event will feature remarks from Alper Coşkun, senior fellow at Carnegie’s Europe program; Sinan Ülgen, senior fellow at Carnegie Europe; Aslı Aydıntaşbaş, visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution’s Center on the United States and Europe; and Hümeyra Pamuk, senior foreign policy reporter for Reuters. 

Thursday, November 17, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a discussion about the international spread of Chinese authoritarianism and what the transatlantic community can do to respond. The discussion will feature Nathan Law, convenor of Advisory Board at the Hong Kong Democracy Council; Michael Chong, shadow minister for foreign affairs for the Official Opposition of Canada; and Johanna Kao, nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Global China Hub. David O. Shullman, senior director of the Global China Hub; and Jörn Fleck, acting director of the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center, will deliver opening remarks. The discussion will be moderated by Annie Boyajian, vice president for policy and advocacy at Freedom House.  

Friday, November 18, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies will host a virtual conversation on how to achieve energy security while simultaneously promoting a sustainable and reliable energy transition for the United States and its allies. The conversation will feature Geoffrey R. Pyatt, assistant secretary for energy resources at the State Department; and Joseph Majkut, director of CSIS’s Energy Security and Climate Change program.
