Monday, April 11, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. ET: The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) will host a fireside chat and panel discussion about the future of online speech regulation: Section 230 and beyond. The online event will feature a conversation between Shane Tews, AEI nonresident senior fellow; and Chris Cox, member of the board of directors of NetChoice. The event will also feature panel discussion about how Congress, state officials and social media firms can address users’ content-moderation while also preserving the free and open internet. Panelists include: Cox; Daniel Lyons, AEI nonresident senior fellow; Jeffrey A. Rosen, AEI nonresident fellow; and Benjamin Wittes, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and editor-in-chief at Lawfare. 

Monday, April 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a seminar entitled Democracy under siege: What does the Ukraine crisis mean for Taiwan? To discuss the implications of the Ukraine crisis on Taiwan and the Indo-Pacific region, James L. Jones, Jr., executive chairman emeritus of the Atlantic Council sat down with Michèle Flournoy, chair of the board of the directors of the Center for a New American Security. The conversation will be moderated by Barry Pavel, senior vice president and director of the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security at the Atlantic Council. 

Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: The American Enterprise Institute will host two panel discussions on climate change, agriculture, food security and policy. The first panel will focus on global issues; the second will focus on the likely impacts of current and proposed U.S. agricultural policies on greenhouse gas emissions. The first panel is comprised of Eric J. Belasco, nonresident senior fellow at AEI; Mark Rosengrant, research fellow emeritus at the International Food Policy Research Institute; Justus Wesseler, professor and head of the Agricultural Economics and Rural Policy Group at Wageningen University & Research; and David Zilberman. The second panel includes Deborah Atwood, executive director of AGree; Scott Faber, senior vice president of government affairs of the Environmental Working Group; Barry K. Goodwin, nonresident senior fellow at AEI; William Hohenstein, director of the Office of Energy and Environmental Policy at the U.S. Department of Agriculture; and Will Martin, senior research fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute. 

Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host an event on the organization, tactics and scale of China’s surveillance state. Minxin Pei, professor of government at Claremont McKenna College will speak about China’s extensive, sophisticated, and highly effective apparatus to monitor the activities of its population and target, in particular, perceived threats to regime security. Pei’s speech will be followed by a discussion between Jean C. Oi; professor of Chinese politics at Stanford University; and Glenn Tiffert, research fellow at the Hoover Institution and historian of modern China. 

Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen to speak about the way forward for the global economy in the wake of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine. 

Wednesday, April 13, 2o22 at 11:30 a.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host a webcast on the effect of the Russia-Ukraine War on global food, energy and mineral supply chains. The event will feature remarks from Sharon Burke, founder and president of Escopherics; Jonathan Elkind, senior research scholar at the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University; Bram Govaerts, director general of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center; Emily King, founder of Analog Gold. The panel will be moderated by Lauren Herzer Risi; program directors of the Environmental Change and Security Program at the Wilson Center. 

Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 12:15 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a conversation with Linda Thomas-Greenfield, representative of the U.S. to the U.N., about the state of international cooperation and multilateralism. Thomas-Greenfield will be speaking with Brookings Senior Fellow Brahima Sangafowa Coulibaly about prospects for international cooperation, the crisis in Ukraine and its implications for the new world order, U.S.-China relations and the U.N. reform agenda.  

Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host a talk on cultivating democracy in India. The event will feature remarks from Mukulika Banerjee, associate professor in social anthropology at the London School of Economics. 

Friday, April 15, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host an event on global corporate tax reform. Lilian Faulhaber; professor of law at Georgetown University will deliver a primer on what exactly is in the two-pillar OECD/G-20 Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) agreement that will reportedly end the “damaging race to the bottom on corporate taxation.” After, there will be a panel discussion to discuss the impact the global agreement will have. Panelists include: Thornton Matheson, Brookings senior fellow; Dhammika Dharmapala, professor at the University of Chicago Law School; Alexander Klemm, division chief at the International Monetary Fund; and Pam Olson, senior policy advisor, PwC.
