Monday, April 25, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. ET: The Foreign Policy Program at the Brookings Institution will host a conversation with former congressman and CIA officer Will Hurd on “how America can get big things done.” Hurd will speak with Brookings senior fellows Elaine Kamarck and Robert Kagan; and Brookings Foreign Policy Vice President and Director Suzanne Maloney. The panelists will discuss policy challenges raised in Hurd's book “American Reboot: An Idealist’s Guide to Getting Big Things Done” including inequality, political dishonesty, technological disruption, declining democracy and rising new threats to America’s global leadership and power.
Monday April 25, 2022 at 4:15 p.m. ET: The Europe Center at the Atlantic Council will host a virtual event to examine how the results of the 2o22 French presidential election may affect France, Europe and France’s relationship with the United States. The event will feature welcoming remarks from Benjamin Haddad, senior director of the Europe Center at the Atlantic Council; followed by a panel discussion between Ryan Heath, senior E.U. correspondent and associate editor at POLITICO; Sandro Gozi, member of the European Parliament; Marie Jourdain, visiting fellow at the Europe Center at the Atlantic Council; and Charles Lichfield, deputy director of the GeoEconomics Center at the Atlantic Council.
Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a conversation with former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch about her memoir, Russia’s war on Ukraine, what the West needs to do next and why Ukraine must win. The event will include introductory remarks by John Herbst, senior director of the Eurasia Center at the Atlantic Council.
Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host an event to examine lessons learned from cybersecurity vulnerability disclosure for addressing socio-technical harms. The seminar will include a panel discussion featuring Camille François, global director for trust & safety at Niantic; Amit Elazari, director of global cybersecurity policy at Intel Corporation; and Alex Rice, founder and chief technology officer at HackerOne.
Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security will hold a hearing on federal efforts to combat human trafficking. The committee will hear testimony from Evelyn Chumbow; Cristian Eduardo; Shamere McKenzie; Terry FitzPatrick, director of the Alliance to End Slavery and Trafficking; Martina E. Vandenberg, president of the Human Trafficking Legal Center; Jacquelynn Aluotto, co-founder of the No Trafficking Zone; Jessica M. Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Center for Immigration Studies; and Sheriff Mark J. Dannels of Cochise County, Arizona.
Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. ET: The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) will host an event about AEI Senior Fellow Matthew Continetti’s new book “The Right: The Hundred Year War for American Conservatism.” The event will feature discussion about what to expect for the future of the conservative movement. The event will also feature remarks from Yuval Levin, director of social, cultural and constitutional studies at AEI; and Paul Ryan, former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host an event on protecting the voices of digital activists in the Middle East and North Africa region. The panel discussion will focus on challenges faced by digital activists in a new era of authoritarian regimes working with tech firms to identify and silence citizens across the Arab world. Panelists include: Abdelsalam Akkad, founder of Aramram; Sami Hourain, founder and CEO of Leaders of Tomorrow; Malika Saada Saar, global head of human rights at YouTube; Mohamad Najem, executive director of SMEX; and Nadia Oweidat, assistant professor of history and security studies and Kansas State University.
Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host an event to examine defense spending in the United States. The event will feature two panel discussions. The first panel discussion will be moderated by Brookings senior fellow Michael E. O’Hanlon and will focus on broad defense spending trends and their impact on innovation. Panelists include Mackenzie Eaglen, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute; and Elizabeth Chimienti, program activity lead for diversification and realignment at the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation. The second panel will also be moderated by O’Hanlon and will examine Defense Department supply chain priorities and the importance of manufacturing. Panelists include Deborah Rosenblum, assistant secretary of defense for nuclear, chemical and biological defense programs; and Elisabeth Reynnolds, special assistant to the president for manufacturing and economic development at the National Economic Council.
Friday, April 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host a Q&A on strengthening sanctions against the Russian Federation. The event will be hosted by Michael McFaul, director of Stanford's Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and other members of the institute’s International Working Group on Russian Sanctions.
