Monday, May 2, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host an event to discuss priorities for the upcoming NATO Summit and security in Europe. The event will feature keynote remarks from Lithuanian Minister of National Defense H.E. Arvydas Anušauskas, followed by three panel discussions. The first panel will discuss priorities for the NATO 2022 summit, the second will focus on lessons learned from the war in Ukraine and the third will discuss the U.S. role in facing the Russia challenge.
Monday, May 2, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host an event to examine the future of American air power. The event will feature a conversation between Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall and Brookings Foreign Policy Director of Research Michael E. O’Hanlon about the Department of the Air Force’s role in deterring potential aggressors. The event will also feature a panel discussion. Panelists include: Kevin Mickey; senior vice president and general manager of the Air Dominance Division at Northrop Grumman; Mike Moeller, vice president for business development and international programs at Pratt & Whitney; Rebecca Grant, president of IRIS Independent Research; and Stephen P. Mueller, vice president for USAF Programs at Lockheed Martin.
Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a conversation with Thomas Nides, U.S. Ambassador to Israel. Nides will sit down with Atlantic Council Distinguished Fellow Daniel Shapiro to discuss his priorities as the new U.S. Amb. to Israel, the future of U.S.-Israel relations and U.S. support for the advancement of Arab-Israeli normalization.
Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute at Stanford University will host an event to examine researcher perceptions of current and future AI. The event will feature remarks from Vael Gates, a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence and the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University.
Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. ET: The Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law will hold a hearing on platform transparency and understanding the impact of social media. The committee will hear testimony from Brandon Silverman, founder of CrowdTangle; Nate Persily, professor at Stanford Law School; Daphne Keller, director of the Program on Platform Regulation at the Cyber Policy Center at Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies; Jim Harper, nonresident senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute; and Jonathan Haidt, professor of ethical leadership at New York University Stern School of Business.
Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. ET: The Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces will hold a hearing on the Nuclear Weapons Council. The committee will receive testimony from Jill Hruby, under secretary of energy for nuclear security administrator at the National Nuclear Security Administration; Heidi Shyu, under secretary for defense for research and engineering; William LaPlante, under secretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment; John Plumb, assistant secretary of defense for space policy; Adm. Christopher Grady, vice chairman of the joint chiefs of staff; and Adm. Charles Richard, commander of the United States Strategic Command.
Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 10:15 a.m. ET: The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on securing and ensuring order on the southwest border. The committee will hear testimony from January Contreras, assistant secretary of the Administration for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; Maryann E. Tierney, senior coordinating official of the Southwest Border Coordination Center at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Benjamine “Carry” Huffman, acting chief operating officer of U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Blas Nuñez-Neto, acting assistant secretary for border and immigration policy of the Office of Strategy, Policy and Plans at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; and Emily Mendrala, deputy assistant secretary of the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.
Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host an event to discuss U.S. grand strategy under President Biden and beyond. The event will feature two panel discussions. The first panel will focus on the Biden administration’s national security agenda and will include Brookings Senior Fellow Robert Einhorn; Brookings Nonresident Senior Fellow Caitlin Talmadge; and Brookings Fellow Melanie W. Sisson. The second panel will analyze future national security challenges and will include Harlan K. Ullman, chairman of the Killowen Group; and Leslie T. Fenwick, dean emerita and professor at Howard University. Both panels will be moderated by Brookings Foreign Policy Director of Research Michael E. O’Hanlon.
