Monday, May 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace will host an online event entitled “Wahhabism and the World: Understanding Saudi Arabia’s Global Influence on Islam.” The webinar will feature remarks from Yasmine Farouk, nonresident scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; Peter Mandaville, professor of international affairs at George Mason University; and Stéphane Lacroix, associate professor at the Paris School of International Affairs.
Monday, May 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host an event to discuss Finland, Sweden and the future of NATO. The event will feature remarks from John R. Allen, Brookings president; Michael E. O’Hanlon, Brookings senior fellow; Contanze Stelzenmüller, Brookings senior fellow; Karin Olofsdotter, ambassador of Sweden to the United States; and Mikko Hautala, ambassador of Finland to the United States.
Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will host an event to discuss ensuring humanitarian aid amid shifting conflict dynamics in Yemen. The event will feature an expert panel made up of Jacob Kurtzer, CSIS senior fellow; Radhya Al-Mutawakel, chairperson of the Mwatana for Human Rights; Paul Harvey, partner at Humanitarian Outcomes; Amanda Catanzano, senior director of policy and advocacy at the International Rescue Committee; and Summer Nasser, chief executive officer of Yemen Aid.
Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a conversation with Ukrainian Minister of Finance Serhiy Marchenko. Marchenko will sit down with Josh Lipsky, senior director of the GeoEconomics Center at the Atlantic Council, to discuss how the West can best support Ukraine’s economy right now, and what Ukraine’s economy might look like after the war.
Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a series of discussions to examine South Korea and the new geoeconomics of Asia. The keynote session will feature remarks from Tarun Chhabra, senior director for technology and national security at the National Security Council; and Andrew Yeo, Brookings senior fellow; about recent developments in the U.S.-South Korea relationship, overlapping interests in high-tech industries and investment by South Korean firms in the U.S. After the keynote discussion, the event will feature two expert panels on panels on South Korea’s role in Asia’s new trade architecture and its role as a provider of regional public goods.
Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a hearing on Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action negotiations and the United States’s policy on Iran moving forward. The committee will hear testimony from Robert Malley, U.S. special envoy for Iran; Karim Sadjadpour, senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; and Mark Dubowitz, chief executive officer of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host an event to analyze China’s faltering “zero coronavirus” policy. Experts will discuss how the recent turn in Beijing’s zero COVID policy undermined the domestic narrative of China’s superior pandemic response and the stature of Xi Jinping’s rule. Panelists include: Jeremy Mark, nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council; Michael Schuman, nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council; Lingling Wei, chief China correspondent at the Wall Street Journal; and David O. Shullman, senior director of the Global China Hub at the Atlantic Council.
Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a webinar to analyze prospects and challenges for Taiwan in the years ahead. The event will feature remarks from Suzanne Maloney, vice president and director of Brookings Foreign Policy; Ryan Hass, Brookings senior fellow; Richard C. Bush, Brookings nonresident senior fellow; Shelley Rigger, professor of political science at Davidson College; and Kharis Templeman, research fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.
Friday, May 27, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host an event entitled “China’s Entrenched Inequality Problem: A Big Data China Event.” The event will feature a presentation by Scott Rozelle, senior fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute on the key findings of the analysis of “Big China Data.” The event will also feature a panel discussion including Mary Gallagher, professor of democracy, democratization and human rights at the University of Michigan; Mary E. Lovely, senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics; Martin K. Whyte, professor emeritus of international studies and sociology at Harvard University; and Ilaria Mazzocco, fellow at CSIS.
Friday, May 27, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. ET: CSIS will host an event to analyze modernization priorities for the Australian Army. At the event CSIS Senior Fellow Tom Karako and CSIS Senior Adviser Charles Edel will sit down with Maj. Gen. Simon Stuart, head land capability for the Australian army, to discuss the Australian Army's modernization programs as it responds to a time of accelerating and converging change.
