Monday, June 27, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace hosted a Twitter Spaces event to discuss whether Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will act on his previously stated concerns regarding Sweden and Finland’s NATO membership bids and oppose NATO enlargement. The event will feature discussion between Carnegie senior fellows Alper Coşkun and Judy Dempsey and Carnegie visiting scholars Marc Pierini and Sinan Ülgen.

Monday, June 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. ET: The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) hosted an event to examine how the United States should balance competition with China between economic pursuits and national defense considerations. Panelists include: Mackenzie Eaglen, AEI senior fellow; Derek Scissors, AEI senior fellow; and Anthony Vinci, vice chair of Competitiveness Council at Business Executives for National Security. The panel will be moderated by Joseph L. Votel, president and CEO of Business Executives for National Security.

Monday, June 27, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will co-host an event with AEI to discuss the economic conditions that allowed for effective cooperation between the United States and its allies on the war in Ukraine and how the war may impact the global economy and globalization moving forward. Panelists include: Henry Farrell, professor of international affairs at Johns Hopkins University; Joshua P. Meltzer, Brookings senior fellow; Chris Miller, AEI visiting fellow; Abraham Newman, director at the Mortara Center for International Studies and professor at Georgetown University; Neena Shenai, AEI nonresident fellow; and Emily S. Weinstein, research fellow at the Center for Security and Emerging Technology at Georgetown University.

Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. ET: The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace will host an event to explore energy security in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and whether the United States and its allies can mitigate the impact of rising gas prices on consumers. The event will feature a discussion between Helima Croft, managing director and global head of commodity strategy and Middle East and North Africa research at RBC Capital Markets, and Aaron David Miller, Carnegie senior fellow.

Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. ET: The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) will host an event to discuss how the United States and its allies can utilize the potential of new technologies and data without deviating from democratic principles. Panelists include: Paul Maykish, senior director of research and analysis for future technology platforms at the Special Competitive Studies Project; Margaret Palmieri, deputy chief digital and AI officer at the Defense Department; and Yavgeniya Pinelis, chief of AI assurance at the Defense Department; Neil Serebryany, CEO of CalypsoAI; and David Spirk, former Defense Department chief data officer.

Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host an event to examine the rising political tensions and risk of violence in Kenya as the country’s Aug. 9 presidential elections approach. Michael E. O’Hanlon, Brookings senior fellow and director of research, will moderate a discussion between St. Lawrence University professors Matthew Carotenuto and Michael Wairungu.

Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. ET: CSIS will host an event to discuss how the United States can advance LGBTQIA+ rights around the world in light of the U.S. government’s first public annual report on efforts by agencies to advance LGBTQIA+ rights globally as part of the Biden administration’s foreign policy agenda. Panelists include: Stephen Chukwumah, policy advocate at the Council for Global Equality; Jay Gilliam, U.S. Agency for International Development senior LGBTQI+ coordinator; Chloe Schwenke, president and founder of the Center for Values in International Development; and Jessica Stern, U.S. special envoy to advance the human rights of LGBTQI+ person;. The discussion will be moderated by Hadeil Ali, CSIS deputy director of the Diversity and Leadership in International Affairs Project, and will begin with opening remarks from Marti Flacks, CSIS Human Rights Initiative director.
