Monday, August 22, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. ET: The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) will host a book forum to discuss Aaron Friedberg’s book “Getting China Wrong” and how the U.S. should respond to China’s lack of democratization over the past few decades. The event will feature discussion between Friedberg, a nonresident senior fellow at AEI, and Kori Schake, director of Foreign and Defense Policy Studies at AEI.
Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will host an online panel to launch a CSIS report, “Finding a Path Through Quagmire: Humanitarian Access and Coordination in the Sahel.” Panelists will include: Will Brown, senior associate of the CSIS Africa Program, Ornella Moderan, Sahel program head at the Institute for Security Studies in Bamako, and Bill O’Keefe, executive vice president for mission, mobilization, and advocacy at Catholic Relief Services. Mvemba Phezo Dizolele, director and senior fellow of the CSIS Africa Program, will moderate the panel, and Jacob Kurtzer, director and senior fellow of the CSIS Humanitarian Agenda, will offer introductory remarks.
Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. ET: CSIS will host an event to discuss Hal Brand and Michael Beckley’s expected book, “Danger Zone: The Coming Conflict with China.” The event will feature a talk with Brands, professor at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and former special assistant to the secretary of defense for strategic planning, and Beckley, associate professor at Tufts University and AEI scholar. The discussion will be moderated by CSIS scholar Jude Blanchette.
Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: CSIS will host an event to evaluate the recently launched U.S. Strategy Toward Sub-Saharan Africa. The event will feature a panel discussion between Cameron Hudson, CSIS scholar; Joseph Sany, vice president at the United States Institute of Peace; Zainab Usman, senior fellow and director at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; and L. Muthoni Wanyeki, director at Open Society Foundations.
Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. ET: CSIS will host an event to examine the Army’s approach to vertical lift and the potential for future advancements. The event will feature a discussion between Cynthia Cook, CSIS director and senior fellow, and Maj. Gen. Walter Rugen, director of the Army’s Future Vertical Lift Cross Functional Team.
Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace will host a speaker series event featuring a talk with Paul Haenle and Anja Manuel about the international political system and its present challenges. Manuel is a former diplomat and co-founder and partner at Rice, Hadley, Gates & Manuel LLC, and Haenle is a Carnegie scholar and former White House China director on the National Security Council.
Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: CSIS will host an event to evaluate the possibility of democratic rule in Venezuela as the country’s 2024 elections draw nearer. Featured panelists: Ryan C. Berg, CSIS senior fellow; José Ignacio Hernandez, visiting fellow at Harvard University; Christopher Sabatini, senior research fellow at Chatham House; and Alexandra Winkler, CSIS senior associate.
Friday, August 26, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host an event to discuss the role of the U.S. Marine Corps in U.S. strategic competition and its future in geopolitical struggles. The event will feature discussion between Brookings scholar Michael E. O’Hanlon and Lt. Col. (ret.) Amy McGrath. Brookings scholar Melanie W. Sisson will moderate the conversation.
