Monday, Aug. 22, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) hosted an event to discuss defense strategy and innovation. The event featured remarks from Charles Q. Brown Jr., chief of staff for the U.S. Air Force. After his remarks, Brown sat down with AEI Senior Fellow Mackenzie Eaglen for a moderated conversation and question and answer session. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will host an event to analyze U.S. technological leadership and patents. The event will feature a panel discussion moderated by CSIS Senior Adviser Kirti Gupta. Panelists include: Mark Cohen, director and senior fellow, Berkeley Center of Law and Technology; Jonathan Putnam, CEO of Competition Dynamics; and Tim Pohlmannn, CEO of IPLytics.
Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. ET: CSIS will host a fireside chat with Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Walensky will be joined by Tom Inglesby, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security; and Julie Gerberding, CEO of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health to discuss the CDC’s domestic and international role in pandemic preparedness. Walensky is also expected to reveal details about recently announced internal reforms at the CDC to bolster its performance amid future health crises.
Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, at 2:45 p.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a conversation with Danish Minister of Defense Morten Bødskov. Bødskov will deliver keynote remarks and sit for a fireside chat about the Danish perspective on the changing security landscape of the Nordic-Baltic region and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a webcast to launch Darrell West’s new book, “Power Politics: Trump and the Assault on American Democracy.” West, the vice president of Governance Studies at Brookings, will join USA Today Washington Bureau Chief Susan Page to discuss Trumpism and the vulnerabilities it exposed in the foundations of U.S. institutions and governance. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. ET: Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute will host a panel discussion with contributing authors to “Uncommon yet Consequential Online Harms,” a special issue of the Journal of Online Trust and Safety, which publishes research from fields including computer science, sociology, political science, and law. Experts will discuss articles such as “Election Fraud, YouTube, and Public Perception of the Legitimacy of President Biden,” and “Procedural Justice and Self Governance on Twitter: Unpacking the Experience of Rule Breaking on Twitter,” and more.
Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. ET: CSIS will host an event on religious persecution and authoritarian consolidation in Nicaragua. CSIS expert Daniel F. Runde will join Jared Genser, managing director of Perseus Strategies and special advisor on the Responsibility to Protect to the Organization of American States, and Deborah Ullmer, regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean Programs at the National Democratic Institute, to discuss the authoritarian Ortega-Murillo regime in Nicaragua and its latest campaign of repression against dissenters—particularly in its recent attacks against the Catholic Church. The speakers will also talk about how the U.S., and the church, can respond.
