Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Wilson Center hosted an event to discuss the upcoming presidential election in Brazil. The event featured remarks from Paulo Sotero, distinguished fellow at the Wilson Center; Bruna Santos, senior adviser of the Brazil Institute at the Wilson Center; Bruno Carazza, journalist at Valor Econômico; Anielle Franco, president of the Instituto Marielle Franco; and Beatriz Rey, senior researcher at the Center for Studies on the Brazilian Congress.
Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution hosted an event to analyze emerging technologies and the future of work in Africa. The event featured a discussion about the new report,“From subsistence to disruptive innovation: Africa, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and the future of jobs” with authors and Brookings Senior Fellows Louise Fox and Landry Signé. The discussion will be moderated by Brookings Nonresident Senior Fellow Raj M. Desai. After the conversation, Justice Tei Mensah, economist at the Office of the Chief Economist at Africa Region at the World Bank, provided comments and distilled the key policy options for African countries as they navigate this new era of emerging technologies and the future of work in Africa.
Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. ET: The Wilson Center will host a conversation with Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhhutto Zardari about Pakistan’s foreign policy. Zardari will speak with Michael Kugelman, director of the South Asia Institute at the Wilson Center.
Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will host an event to examine Poland’s ongoing support for Ukraine in its current war with Russia, and the country’s larger role in the transatlantic security structure. The event will feature keynote remarks from Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Zbigniew Rau. Rau will also engage in a conversation with Max Bergmann, director of the Europe Program and Stuart Center at CSIS, about the recent developments in European geopolitics.
Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. ET: CSIS will host a discussion with Thomas West, Special Representative for Afghanistan and Deputy Assistant Secretary, reflecting on conditions in Afghanistan one year after the Taliban takeover. West will speak with Daniel F. Runde, CSIS senior vice president, about the current conditions in the region as well as the United States’ ongoing responsibilities to and interests in Afghanistan.
Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. ET: The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the Capitol will hold another hearing examining the events and causes of Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. The committee has yet to release a witness list.
Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at 11:15 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a conversation with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. Raimondo will speak with Keith Krach, former U.S. undersecretary of state for economic growth, energy, and environment, about key areas of tech competition between the United States and China.
Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host an event to discuss U.S.-China relations through the lens of technology competition. The event will feature a discussion with White House Senior Director for Technology and National Security Tarun Chhabra about the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors for America (CHIPS) and Science Act of 2022. The conversation will be moderated by Brookings Fellow Chris Meserole. Meserole will also moderate a panel discussion with Brookings Fellow Melanie W. Sisson and Brookings Nonresident Senior Fellow Sarah Kreps on the evolving competition between the U.S. and China.
Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, at 10:00 p.m. ET: The Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI) at Stanford University will host a screening of and discussion about “Tango with Putin: Fighting for Free Media in Russia.” After the screening, FSI Director and former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul will lead a discussion and audience Q&A with the filmmakers, Natalya Sindeeva and Vera Krichevskaya.
